Product Carbon Footprint

CarbonCloud about PCF reporting

Getting started with Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) reporting often raises practical questions. Here we address some of the most common ones, answered by David Bryngelsson, CEO of CarbonCloud.

Many of our suppliers ask: “How am I supposed to know what my suppliers are doing?”

David:
You don’t need to map your entire supply chain yourself. The approach is simple: You only report what you control.

Instead of estimating your suppliers’ data, you invite them to contribute directly through the platform. Each supplier then reports on their own activities, creating a chain of data across the value chain. In practice:

  • Traders and distributors typically report limited data, such as transport and storage.
  • Producers report on their own processes, such as raw materials, production methods, and origin.

This means that what may seem complex at first becomes a shared and manageable process, where each partner contributes their part. To gain more insights into the detailed data from other parties in your supply chain, voluntary coooperation is needed. This is an opportunity to start.

What do I gain from entering my data?

David:
By entering your data, you gain a clear and structured view of your product’s climate impact.

The platform shows a breakdown of the PCF, helping you understand where emissions occur across the value chain. You immediately gain an analysis of the product's footprint, categorized by the metrics that matter most to the food industry.

The benefit is twofold: You gain insights to start optimizing your own production efficiency, while simultaneously signaling to your customers that you are a proactive leader in their green transition. It effectively transforms a regulatory requirement into a competitive business advantage.

How is my data protected?

David:
We understand that production processes, recipes, and supplier relationships are sensitive information.

Your data is handled in a way that enables collaboration—while protecting what is confidential.

  • Complete Isolation: Every organization operates within its own encrypted account. Sensitive activity data—such as exact recipes, ingredient quantities, or specific supplier names—never leaves your account and is never visible to other users or customers.
  • Controlled Sharing: You remain in full control. The only information shared with your customer is the product name, category, and the final climate result (including its breakdown). Your customer sees what the footprint is, but never the proprietary details of how the product is formulated.
  • Security Standards: We employ industry-leading security protocols to ensure data integrity and protection against unauthorized access.

This allows you to contribute to a shared understanding of climate impact—without exposing sensitive business information.
